Hi, I'm Reeses Pieces.
I was born early on a lovely warm day in April. I spent my first few hours of life getting to know my mother, Sierra. She was beautiful and kind and I liked her a lot. After we had gotten acquainted, I decided to do some walking (even though I wobbled a lot). I explored for a long time and found some interesting things. I even found a place to get a drink whenever I wanted one.
Shortly after that, the people came. They were tall, noisy and very friendly. They talked excitedly amongst themselves and I soon realized that they thought I was great!
The people moved my mother and I out to a big pasture and I decided to try some running. It was so much fun that I tried some bucking too. I did some other cute antics which made the people fall in love with me even more if it were possible. Several people in their cars slowed down to look at me as they passed by my fence. They must have known that I was brand new and very special.
My mother and I settled down then and were content to soak up the sun and graze and drink. The people brought their lawn chairs over by my fence and sat watching and talking excitedly about me all day long. Everything seemed perfect ... that is until I began not to feel well. I began to sleep a lot and didn’t feel like running around or like doing any cute things at all anymore. By the end of the day, I was feeling so poorly that I could barely get up to drink. I don’t remember much after that except that the people were hustling around me worriedly. More people showed up and I got poked with a few needles. Ouch! There was talk of taking me to a place called Cornell in order to save my life. My owners didn’t know if they could afford such an expensive place, but they knew they had to try.
My mother and I then took a very long and bumpy ride to the place called Cornell. When we arrived we were met by more people who poked me with more needles. Ouch! The people also gave me fluids, medicine and a transfusion. The good part was that I was starting to feel better. At the end of my three day stay at Cornell, I was feeling so good that the people were having difficulty catching me!
My owners were overjoyed to see me when they arrived to take me home. I was happy to see them too, and I nibbled on their clothes and fingers, and nuzzled their faces.
My mother and I ran and ran when we finally arrived home and were back in our pasture again. I jumped and bucked and did other cute things that made my owners laugh and talk excitedly about me just like on the day I was born. I could tell that they thought I was great, and were very grateful that I was alive!
